How to boil and enter the Goemon Bath

1 Fill with water

Tighten the plug and fill with water. (Be sure to put water on before burning wood.)

The initial amount of water should be about 1/2 of the bathtub. (If the water is filled to the brim, it will take time for the bath to boil, and it would be a waste if the water overflows when the bath is taken.)

Because a goemon bath does not (cannot) extinguish the fire after the water boils, water is added to the bathtub before bathing to adjust the temperature. For this reason, it is better to store a small amount of hot water at the beginning.

2 Light the firewood.

Arrange the square timbers so that they form a triangle. Place an igniter between the square timbers and light the igniter.

Add firewood.

Use about 4 sticks at first, and as the fire gets stronger, check the temperature of the bath water and add more firewood as needed. The final number to use is about 8 sticks (the number may vary depending on the temperature outside).

⚠️If the fire is weak, for example, add more wood.

  When the fire is getting weak, use a fire stick to send air to adjust the fire.

The temperature becomes suitable for bathing within one to two hours of starting to burn the wood. (The time to enter the Goemon bath is when you feel that it is still lukewarm.)

The door should be completely closed, and the air intake (small window in the door) should be open (If the door is left open, the water will be boiling hot).

3 Preparation before bathing - Bathing

• When entering the bathtub, sink the mat under the bathtub while entering the bathtub. (Failure to do so will result in serious burns.)

The fire cannot be completely extinguished (it will not go out) and it will continue to get hotter and hotter after that. Please add water from time to time.

Wash your body and hair with the increased hot water in this way, and consume the increasing amount of hot water.

If you close the lid of the bathtub, the water will stay warm until morning (depending on the condition of the wood and the outside temperature).

By closing the window, the fire is completely extinguished.

Leave the bath plug in place after bathing. Do not drain the hot water from the bathtub. (This may burn the bathtub or melt the bottom plate.)
